David I. Kenworthy "KW"
I have worked in the area of technical theatre for the past 25 years. I hold an MFA in Scenography from Humboldt State University, a BA in Theatre from Chico State University, and an AA degree from Shasta College.
The idea of theatre and what I can do with it is one of my greatest passions. I get to take an empty space and design and build a world in that space. There is nothing better than that, except maybe taking it down so I can do it again.
Over the past 25 years I have had the opportunity and privilege to work in many capacities including, Designer, Technical Director, Stage Manager, Sound Engineer, and others. I am currently the Technical Director for the Theatre Dept. at Wofford College. Previously I was the Tech and Design Professor at Oklahoma Baptist University for 6 years.
I have had the chance to design shows in many different locations and spaces, from designing for large scale dance shows in large venues to intimate shows in a black box . Using my philosophy of design to enhance the text; only putting on stage that which is required for the set, or playing with shadows and colors to set mood or focus when working with lights. I believe the job of a designer is to create the greatest design possible and then make it disappear once the first word is spoken. The design should be one part of the story not the story itself.
